VIG Re is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Information Officer (CIO) with background in reinsurance or insurance to lead our Data- and IT department called Global Data & Tech of 20-30 professionals. As the CIO, you will be responsible for driving the VIG Re’s digital transformation journey, reporting directly to the Board of Management, and spearheading the company’s digitization initiatives, in particular in the context of VIG Re’s transformation program. You will leverage your extensive technical expertise, particularly in Azure, data architecture, AI, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure, to position our company as an excellence leader.

Your tasks

  • Transformation of IT department: Drive the development of VIG Re’s current IT department into a future proof organization. Spearhead a overhaul of organizational structure, leadership team and departmental capabilities. Lead the change to implement new competences, develop the existing team, win new talents, and form a high-performance organization serving as a backbone for VIG Re’s ambition to become a digitally enabled reinsurer.
  • Cloud & Data Leadership: Drive cloud transformation, focusing on Azure, and lead the data and cloud teams within the IT organization. Ensure the architecture is scalable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and execute the overall IT strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives. Lead the IT transformation journey to modernize and enhance the company’s technology landscape, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Digital Transformation: Oversee the entire IT and digitization landscape, driving cloud adoption, data initiatives, and software development. Champion the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, including AI and data-driven solutions, to optimize business operations and ensuring best-in-class IT security.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, grow, and develop a diverse team of IT professionals. Cultivate a high-performance culture, ensuring team alignment with strategic goals and fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with the board, executive leadership, and other key stakeholders (e.g., business or group functions) to communicate IT vision, progress, and impact. Influence decision-making at the highest level to support business growth and innovation.

Our expectations

  • University degree, preferably in computer science or similar education.
  • Very strong communication, intercultural, and stakeholder management skills across all levels of seniority with the ability to engage and influence board-level stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated and persevering personality
  • Business-fluent spoken and written English
  • Proven experience as a CIO for small or mid-sized reinsurance or insurance company or in a senior IT leadership role such as Department Head in larger organization within the insurance, reinsurance, or broader financial services industry.
  • Extensive background in managing large IT teams, including experience leading cloud and data functions.
  • Strong technical expertise in Azure, data architecture, AI, software engineering, cloud, and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success in leading IT transformation and digitization initiatives in complex, regulated environments.
  • Exceptional people management skills with a track record of building and leading high-performing, diverse teams.
  • Experience in managing budgets and working with third-party vendors.
  • Willingness to travel
