Our Corporate Underwriting Department is looking for an enthusiastic, highly qualified industry leader for the position of Manager of the Underwriting Centre of Competence.
This managerial role spans across our entire Non-Life and Life reinsurance portfolio, with the responsibility to develop and maintain an effective UW risk appetite and governance framework, enabling the underwriters to perform at best in their risk-taking decisions.
This leader will ensure effective portfolio steering (including management of UW capacities) and will bring VIG Re “UW transformation” initiative to life, implementing and enhancing the UW operating model to fit the Company’s strategic ambition.
Your tasks
- Design and continuously enhance VIG Re underwriting risk appetite framework, define UW policies, guidance and governance instruments and oversee their application.
- Foster reinsurance contractual quality, provide consultation on contracts’ matters, define VIG Re wording’s standards
- Embrace a strategic perspective on the UW portfolio; foster a risk-return philosophy; steer the book striving for its optimal composition, balancing short- and long-term objectives.
- Guide the team in performing analysis of the development of the UW book (risk profile, AvE, etc.), generating exposure-based analytical insights, assessing performance drivers and managing critical sources of accumulation.
- Promote a forward-looking view on the risks’ landscape; evaluate relevant emerging trends and outline business-oriented, commensurate measures.
- Foster the implementation of the UW Target Operating Model, ensuring effectiveness, efficiency, consistency and quality of processes and data used in UW activities.
- Stimulate the enhancement of UW knowhow across the organisation.
- Promote cross functional collaboration and stakeholders’ alignment.
- Effective team management: secure adequate staffing, proper prioritisation of activities and empowerment.
- Enable the professional growth of the team members: promote a spirit of continuous learning, curiosity and personal accountability; boost the orientation towards modern technologies and data-driven underwriting.

- Experience in systems’ implementation and roll-out of new technological solutions is a plus.

- Acquaintance with C-suite engagement.
- Fluency in English. Another major European language is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting or portfolio management/strategy; focus on Non-Life lines of business (additional experience in Life is a plus).
- Solid leadership experience.
- University degree in Economics, Finance, Actuarial.
