Senior Data Engineer

Your tasks

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks (PySpark and Spark SQL) and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Proactively co-lead the hands-on transition to a cloud-based data warehouse, architecting solutions that support ingestion, transformation, and access to diverse data sources.
• Integrate data from internal systems including underwriting, claims, policy administration, and finance into our Azure cloud environment and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Optimize data platform performance using SQL and Python, ensuring high reliability, security, and scalability.
• Apply data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and modelling best practices to support the analytics team.
• Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices across the team.
• Collaborate with governance and security teams to ensure compliance with GDPR, DORA, and data policies.
• Help automate platform operations through scripting, DevOps practices, and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
• Document data infrastructure, pipelines, and processes comprehensively to enable knowledge sharing.

Our expectations

• Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer developing and maintaining enterprise-scale data platforms, preferably within insurance or financial services.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in SQL, Python (PySpark), along with strong familiarity with cloud best practices (Azure preferred).
• Solid understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, lakehouse architectures, and dimensional modelling techniques.
• Hands-on cloud experience with Azure services (Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks, or similar platforms).
• Experience leading or co-leading data migration projects to cloud environments.
• Knowledge of data privacy, governance frameworks, and experience with regulated environments (GDPR, IFRS 17, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset and strong communication abilities.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers, troubleshoot complex issues, and continuously improve data processes.
• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Informatics is a substantial advantage.
• Relevant certifications (Azure Data Engineer, Databricks, DAMA, etc.) are advantageous.
• Knowledge of Visual Basic is considered as well.
